We are a team of like minded CTCians who believe that we do not inherit this earth from our ancestors, we borrow it from our children !!!
We don’t see oxygen parlors as viable alternatives for our trees.
We believe that conservation is not someone else’s responsibility and we understand that participation of society is necessary for anything that results in something that’s good !!!

What is World Forestry Day?
World Forestry Day is celebrated around the world to ring a bell among the society about the importance of forests and the scores of benefits which are gained from them. The concept of celebrating a day every year as World Forestry Day originated at the 23rd General Assembly of the European Confederation of Agriculture in 1971.The event also venerates the contribution of the forests. Every year, 21 March is distinguished as World Forestry Day.

A forest just doesn’t mean trees but it’s an entire complex, a living community. Many interdependent species of plants and animals dwell beneath the forest canopy; the forest soil is a home to large variety of invertebrates, bacteria and fungi which play an essential role in cycling nutrients in the soil and the forest. The reckless felling of trees is creating many problems in the surroundings so the need of the hour says that everybody should ponder seriously over this issue and stop activities that are against the welfare of forests. Everybody should actively involve themselves in prevention and creation of new forests. And situations of deforestation and over-gazing should be avoided.

About Nanmangalam Reserve Forest:

Nanmangalam Reserve Forest is a protected area located in the southern part of Chennai, about 24 km from the city centre. It is located at Medavakkam on Velachery High Road between Velachery and Tambaram. The reserve forest has an area of 320 hectares. However, the total area of the forest is 2,400 hectares. The forest is popular among bird watchers and is home to about 85 species of birds. Red-wattled Lapwing, Crested Honey Buzzard, Grey Partridge, Coucal, Indian Eagle-owl, White-breasted Kingfisher, Pied Kingfisher, Southern Bush Lark and Red-whiskered Bulbul are commonly seen birds in the area.

The 320-hectare Nanmangalam Reserved Forest, located about 10 km from Velachery, is a scrubland around an abandoned granite quarry and is home to some of the rare territorial orchids, according to a recent study. The state forest department has entrusted the work of data collection in this small forest area to Care Earth, a bio-diversity research organisation. Located near Medavakkam, a rapidly developing residential locality, the forest needs immediate fencing to protect it from encroachment and to curtail any non-forestry activity there, the study says.
